Dagan was born on March 16, 1987, in Tel Aviv, Israel. He was raised in a Jewish household and attended a Jewish day school. When he was 13, his family moved to the United States and settled in Los Angeles. Dagan became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2006. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and history.

Dagan began his career in television news as a production assistant at ABC affiliate WMAR-TV in Baltimore, Maryland. He later was promoted to associate producer and then to producer. He left WMAR in 1999 to become a freelance producer for Fox News. In 2000, he became a full-time field producer for Fox News based in Miami, Florida, where he covered stories such as the Elián González custody battle and Hurricane Andrew. In 2001, Dagan was promoted to senior field producer and transferred to the network’s Los Angeles bureau. He was promoted again in 2003 to supervising field producer.
