Vega’s early life and education
Cecilia Vega was born on October 7, 1977, in San Francisco, California. Her father is of Argentine descent, and her mother is of Irish and Swedish descent. Vega’s paternal grandparents immigrated to the United States from Argentina. She grew up in Sonoma County, California. Vega attended Analy High School in Sebastopol, California. In 1995, Vega enrolled at the University of Rhode Island where she studied broadcast journalism and international relations. She later transferred to Georgetown University in Washington D.C., and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English and foreign affairs in 1999.

Cecilia Vega is a respected journalist who has worked for ABC News since 2011. Prior to joining the network, she worked as a general assignment reporter for San Francisco’s ABC affiliate, KGO-TV. She has also worked as a national correspondent for CNN and as afill-in anchor for Univision’s weekend news program, Primer Impacto.

Prior to joining ABC News, Vega was a general assignment reporter for KNXV-TV (ABC15) in Phoenix, Arizona. Vega also worked as a political reporter for KGTV (ABC10) in San Diego. She began her career in broadcast journalism as an intern at KABC-TV (ABC7) in Los Angeles.

She has four older sisters: Ruth, Raquel, Patricia, and Gina. Ruth is Vega’s fraternal twin; the two were born on the same day. Vega’s paternal grandmother is from Mexico and her paternal grandfather is from Spain. Her maternal grandparents are from Guatemala.
